PROJECT: Select software to facilitate reservations of study rooms

TASK FORCE MEMBERS: Michael Bland, Judy Maseles, Marie Concannon, Cindy Cotner, Mary Ryan

PROJECT TIMELINE: Hope to make software selection ASAP, hope to have software in place by fall semester 2006

UPDATE: On December 18, 2006, the committee had a conference call with Jim Dutton at the MCO office. Jim has been working to customize the bookings unit within Triple I so that it can be used for booking our study rooms. Part of the process involves "cataloging" each room with descriptive information and rules for usage. The Committee has been providing Jim with this information.

PROJECT: ALA/Nextbook "Let's Talk About It" Book discussion grant

PROJECT ORGANIZER: Rachel Brekhus

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Rachel has received an ALA/Nextbook "Let's Talk About It" public programming grant to hold a series of book discussions to which the general public is invited. Discussions will be led by a local scholar, David Crespy, of the MU Theatre Department. The series is titled "Demons, Dybbuks and Golems: Monsters of the Jewish Imagination."

PROJECT TIMELINE: The discussions will be held at Columbia Public Library, which has agreed to partner with us on Monday nights beginning Monday October 30.

PROJECT: Prototype for an online resource to help students find and use government information

PROJECT ORGANIZERS: Rachel, Gwen and Geoff

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Rachel, Gwen and Geoff spent the Spring '06 semester working with three graduate students in David Jonasson's IS&LT 9478, "Designing Constructivist Learning Environments." The students (Lanika Ruzhitskaya, Tak Nuankhieo and Angela Browder), have created a prototype for an online resource to help students find and use government information. PROJECT TIMELINE: There's still some work to do on the site, and it will require some tweaking before we go live, but I think that they've done a marvelous job! Since this project will continue (and is related to a much more ambitious project that I have simmering on the back burner), keep watching this space for more information ... GDS June 2, 2006

PROJECT: Missouri Historical Documents Browser

PROJECT ORGANIZER: Marie Concannon

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a web-based tool that helps reference librarians and catalogers locate Missouri state publications in the MOBIUS catalog. 19th century annual reports from state agencies can be notoriously hard to pull up because state agency searches in the author field can be tricky. The Missouri Historical Documents Browser presently offers access by year, then by agency. Access by all agencies is coming soon, and access by subject after that.
